The HART® Communication Foundation (HCF) has released the HART 7 Specification. Included in HART 7 is WirelessHART™, the first open wireless communication standard specifically designed specifically to address the needs of the process industry for simple, reliable and secure wireless communication in real world industrial plant applications. The HCF Board of Directors authorized release of this new standard on September 7, 2007 and certified products will be available starting in Q2 2008.

Compared to legacy star-connected systems, WirelessHART’s self-organizing and self-healing mesh architecture is more reliable and radically simpler to install and maintain. And, because it is HART, WirelessHART delivers the same user experience, ease-of-use and flexibility that users expect from HART-enabled products.

WirelessHART supports both new wireless field devices and also retrofit of existing HART devices with WirelessHART adapters.
